Blake Davis of Mustang, Oklahoma, couldn’t believe it when he learned he’d won $5,000 through Tinker Federal Credit Union’s College Cash giveaway.
“At first, I thought it was a scam,” he laughed. “But when I got the official confirmation, I was super excited. This is amazing.”
A freshman at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Blake is studying mechanical engineering with a mix of philosophy and first-year Christian courses.
“It’s a lot, but I’m pushing through and staying consistent,” he said.
Engineering a future
Blake’s interest in engineering began in childhood, taking things apart and trying to put them back together. High school pre-engineering classes at Canadian Valley solidified his path.
“It’s fun. It can be challenging but it teaches consistency,” he said. His top choice is mechanical engineering, with petroleum engineering as a backup.
Staying local, aiming high
While Blake hopes to stay in Oklahoma, he’s open to moving for career opportunities, perhaps to Texas. Outside of academics, he enjoys rollerblading around campus and playing video games, balancing work and fun as he navigates college life.
A TFCU connection
Blake has been a Tinker Federal Credit Union member for four years.
“They take care of me anytime I have a banking problem,” he said. “I haven’t had any issues like you might with other banks, and the mobile app makes checking statements and savings easy.”
Making college more manageable
For Blake, the scholarship means less pressure to work outside of school.
“I can focus more on studies and work only as much as I need,” he said. Blake works at a local car wash while managing his course load. and the $5,000 award will go toward tuition and building his savings.
Giving back through opportunity
Blake appreciates TFCU’s commitment to students.
“Most banks might do something similar, but they don’t do it with genuine care. TFCU giving back like this is about helping the community and that’s important,” he said.
