ECU Business Administration Major Wins $5,000 TFCU Scholarship Contest

TFCU member and East Central University freshman Katie Carter just found out she’s one of five $5,000 winners of TFCU’s annual Back to Campus scholarship contest. She received the news while working her job as a shift leader at Starbucks. Her surprised reaction was, “Are you serious? When I entered, I didn’t think I would actually win!”

In addition to going to school and working at Starbucks, Katie is involved in lots of organizations, including the Business Leaders of America. She plans to attend law school after graduating with her bachelor’s degree. To balance out work and school, she enjoys painting and pottery.

“Winning this scholarship makes me feel more secure knowing I’m not having to go into debt for college,” said Katie. “It’s just comforting.”

Katie and her family have been Tinker Federal Credit Union members for some time. Katie, who is always thinking ahead, recently went into the TFCU Ada branch for a little help. “I told them I wanted to start to build credit and they gave me a secured credit card,” said Katie. “I like TFCU. It’s just easy.”

“She’s very smart and aware,” said Kerrie Carter, Katie’s mom. “She’s got her head screwed on straight. And I say that, not just because she’s my daughter.”

Oh, and Katie’s favorite drink to order at Starbucks is the Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso!
