Protect Yourself From Text Scams

There is a scam circulating regarding funds being withdrawn from TFCU accounts. We encourage you to be aware of potential text scams and to protect yourself from fraudsters pretending to be TFCU.

How the scam works:

  • You receive a text message from a number claiming to be TFCU that says you have a pending withdrawal on your account with a link to cancel this transaction.
  • Do not click the link! If you respond and provide any identifying information, the fraudster may get access to your account.

If you are unsure about the legitimacy of a text message, here are some common “red flags” to help you determine if the text is a scam.

Pay attention to:

  • The use of generic versus personalized language (such as “Dear member”).
  • The use of urgent and exaggerated language to create urgency.
  • Grammatical mistakes.
  • Embedded hyperlinks to suspicious websites.

If you are unsure about the status of your account, log in to online or mobile banking or contact the TFCU Member Service Center at (405) 732-0324, option 6, to confirm transactions.
