Langston Nursing Student Wins $7,500 TFCU Scholarship

In celebration of Tinker Federal Credit Union’s 75th Anniversary, TFCU gave away three $7,500 college scholarships this fall. A total of 5,231 people entered the contest. Langston University Sophomore ShanTeara Robinson was thrilled to receive one of the scholarships. “After the phone call from TFCU about winning, I immediately called my mom and told her I basically won the lottery,” said ShanTeara.

The nursing major from Lawton, OK heard about the contest when the TFCU community engagement team visited the campus to talk to students about the credit union. “Some of my friends walked by the TFCU table and decided not to enter the contest,” said ShanTeara. “I bet they will next year!”

Ever since she was a little girl, ShanTeara knew she wanted to go into the medical field. “I have always liked helping people,” she shared. “With nursing you’re more hands-on – you make more of a connection with patients and that’s what interests me.”

When asked about what she will do with the money, ShanTeara explained, “This money will go toward saving up for graduate school to get my doctorate in nursing.”
