Enjoy the 2024 winner stories.

This spring, TFCU hosted its “Teachers + TFCU” sweepstakes where we asked our social media followers to nominate their favorite teacher to win $2,000 from the TFCU Financial Empowerment team. You all shared the love! We randomly chose three winners out of more than 500 nominations and were excited to award these deserving Oklahoma teachers with $2,000 each.

Alexius from OKC

Alexius is a 5th –  8th grade drama teacher at KIPP OKC College Prep Middle School.

“It’s important for kids to be themselves and be weird and funny and crazy, because that’s a different side of creativity. They can be innovative, it creates social skills, it creates them to be who they are and it actually builds character in the long run.”

Chad from Norman

Chad is a Student Government and Introduction to Leadership teacher at Norman North High School.

“To get to see kids figure life out and grow up and become successful, not just successful in a career, but successful human beings that are willing to give back to a community and work in a community is priceless. I say all the time how grateful I am and how blessed I am to get to do what I do and I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Kayla from Broken Arrow

Kayla is a 6th grade science teacher at Sequoyah Middle School in Broken Arrow, OK.

“Seeing the growth in the kids is one of the most amazing feelings in the world. You have them for a whole year and you build relationships and you see them growing, not just in their knowledge, but as a person. And that’s just amazing.”

TFCU’s financial empowerment team is here for Oklahoma teachers

“So many recognition programs for teachers award money to be used in the classroom. Teachers give so much inside the classroom daily,” said Heather Kay, assistant vice president and manager of the financial empowerment department at TFCU. “We want our winners to treat themselves to something special outside the classroom.”

Since 2008, TFCU’s financial empowerment team has been actively presenting free, in-person and virtual financial education workshops throughout the state of Oklahoma at schools, businesses and other civic and tribal organizations. These workshops help adults and youth learn the importance of good money management skills, with topics ranging from how to set a budget to utilizing financial resources for various life stages and events.

The financial empowerment team and the Teachers + TFCU program are some of the ways TFCU lives up to the credit union motto of people helping people, by meeting community needs across the state of Oklahoma.

“We are here to help support Oklahoma teachers by empowering their students to make smart money choices for life,” said Kay. “By coming into the classroom as a guest speaker, we can teach about financial fundamentals like setting goals, making a budget, paying bills and other real-world skills to prepare students for financial independence.”
