‘Thankful for You’ 2023 winner: “He supports all our dreams”

Husband and wife Melvin and Andrea Lister from Midwest City, Oklahoma, are two very excited TFCU members looking forward to using their 2023 “Thankful For You” social media contest winnings this holiday season.

“Melvin never buys anything nice for himself. I have to make him shop for himself!” Andrea said. “He’s a very busy man. He works three jobs, including the food truck we own, to support our family and our kids’ dreams. I just want our kids to be able to do the things we couldn’t do when we were younger.”

Andrea and Melvin have three children who are in school and competitive sports, from middle school to college. Melvin also volunteers coaching track at SNU.

“One of the reasons we started our business is to show our kids how to save up and build wealth. We’ve tried to teach a lot of money sense and values through our food truck, including family being very important,” Andrea said.

Beyond work and volunteering, Andrea appreciates that he’s a family man and “MacGyver.”

“He’s always checking in on our extended family, fixing things and showing up for all the life moments – whatever anyone needs,” Andrea said. “This is just a great way for us to show him how much we appreciate him without him fussing about spending money on himself.”

What will Melvin spend at least part of his $750 TFCU gift card on this holiday season?

“My first thought was to take my wife out to dinner, but she’s probably going to make me buy shoes,” Melvin said.

“He needs nice shoes!” Andrea said. “But let’s get real – the truth is he’ll probably buy tools, whatever new gadget he can find.”

However they agree to use the “Thankful for You” winnings, it’s clear this family already had so much to be thankful for – in each other.
