Meet ‘College Cash’ winner: Emory Zoellner from Oklahoma State University

TFCU member Emory Zoellner from Perkins, OK, just received $5,000 in “College Cash” from Tinker Federal Credit Union. As one of five winners out of almost 6,000 entrants, the Oklahoma State University electrical engineering student was “shocked” to find out he won.

Emory and his mom both saw the news about the TFCU “College Cash” contest at the same time. “She texted me to tell me about it, but I had just opened the TFCU email and entered already,” said Emory.

Working on campus as a mentor for incoming freshmen engineering students, Emory aspires to do system designs for buildings. He’s also interested in renewable energy, particularly wave generators.

“I was in differential equations class when I got the call [about winning],” Emory said. “When I listened to the voicemail I thought ‘this can’t be real.’”

Once the reality of the $5,000 prize sunk in, he felt relief.

“It helps me almost break even for this semester. I won’t have to worry about a  loan,” Emory said. “I have a very strenuous degree and it’s nice not to have to worry about money.”

Emory’s mom was already a big fan of TFCU.

“I like that it is a not-for-profit. It has the member’s best interest at heart,” Nicole Zoellner said. “When it comes time to shop for a loan, you can see there’s a difference in the rate. We’ve probably been members for over 19 years now.”
