Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Apple Pay

What is Apple Pay?

Apple Pay is a mobile payment and digital wallet service that allows users to make payments using a mobile device in place of a physical credit or debit card. The service keeps member payment information private from the merchant and creates a unique “token” for each transaction.

What devices can I use with Apple Pay?

You can use Apple Pay with your iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3, and Apple Watch that is paired with either your iPhone 5, 5s, 6 or 6 Plus.

How do I add my card to Apple Pay?

To add a credit or debit card on iPhone, open the Passbook application, then tap the plus sign in the upper right corner. From there, simply enter your card’s security code and any remaining fields.

To add a credit or debit card on iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3, go to Settings>Passbook & Apple Pay, tap Add Credit or Debit Card and then follow the same steps for iPhone above.

To set up your debit or credit card on Apple Watch, simply open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone>select the Passbook & Apple Pay >tap Add a new Credit or Debit Card and, then, follow the same steps for iPhone above.

If requested, follow additional steps to verify your card. After you confirm your TFCU card has been added to your mobile device, you’re ready to use it in Apple Pay.

Why am I being asked to verify my TFCU card?

For security reasons, we may need you to provide additional verification to add your TFCU card to Apple Pay. After your information is verified, you should receive a Passbook or Apple Watch app notification that your card is ready for Apple Pay.

How do I set my TFCU card as my default card for Apple Pay?

Setting your TFCU card as your default card is easy, and you only need to do it once. Go to Settings, Passbook & Apple Pay and tap Default Card selection. Choose your TFCU card as your default. The first card you add to Apple Pay will automatically be your default card, but you can update it at any time.

Does TFCU charge anything to use Apple Pay?

No. TFCU does not charge a fee for members to use Apple Pay.

Where can I use Apple Pay?

Apple Pay is available at stores and restaurants whose payment terminals are set up to accept contactless payments. Please continue to carry your physical card for merchants that have not adopted this technology. You can view a list of participating merchants at the Apple Pay website.

What is a contactless payment?

Contactless payments are transactions that use chip-based technology and require no physical connection between the payment device (card or mobile device) and the physical merchant terminal.

Is Apple Pay safe and secure for making payments? How am I protected against fraud?

Yes, when you make payments with Apple Pay and your TFCU card, your full card number is not shown to the merchant or to Apple Pay and all transactions are monitored by TFCU’s risk and fraud detection systems. In addition, fraudulent purchases made using Apple Pay are protected by VISA and MasterCard’s Zero Liability policy when the unauthorized transactions are reported promptly.

What if my TFCU card is lost or stolen?

Please call TFCU immediately and mention that you added your TFCU card to Apple Pay. We will close your card so that no more purchases can be made. You should also remove the lost or stolen card from Passbook or the Apple Watch using the “Remove Card” option. When you receive your replacement card, you will need to add the new card to Apple Pay before making any Apple Pay purchases.

What if my phone or mobile device is lost or stolen?

In addition to notifying your mobile carrier, please contact TFCU. We will either temporarily suspend or deactivate your card for use with Apple Pay.

If you have the Find My iPhone application downloaded to your device, you can use it to remotely lock your device. For more information about Find My iPhone, please refer to the Apple website.

If I erase my iPhone, does that cancel my physical cards or can I continue to use them?

Erasing the information on your iPhone will have no effect on your physical cards. You can continue to use your cards as you normally would. Erasing your iPhone will delete the virtual cards from Apple Pay. You can add your credit and debit cards back into Apple Pay at any time.
