OKC Empowerment Zone Expands TFCU Membership
Thousands of Oklahoma City residents who may currently not have the advantage of credit union services are now eligible to join TFCU. We are pleased to announce that anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the Oklahoma City Empowerment Zone now qualifies for TFCU membership. The Empowerment Zone is an economic development initiative created by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to facilitate self-sustaining, long-term revitalization. Oklahoma City is home to one of eight new Empowerment Zones nationwide. It encompasses nearly 20 square miles of Oklahoma City’s most urban areas and is home to nearly 10 percent of Oklahoma City’s population, or about 50,000 members and potential members.
TFCU’s mission and purpose go hand in hand with the vision of the Empowerment Zone initiative. The initiative seeks to improve economic conditions in neighborhoods by encouraging new business and jobs through tax credits and other incentives. We exist to help our members “achieve their goals and realize their dreams” through high-quality, low-cost financial services, financial education and “second chance” assistance, when appropriate. This area stretches as far north as N.W. 63rd St. and as far south as Grand Blvd. It is bordered on its far west side by Portland Ave. and on the east by Bryant Ave. If you know anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in this area, share the good news about TFCU membership with them.
