New Site Fights Cyber Crime
In an attempt to address the rising online crime threat, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has unveiled a new Web site, www.onguardonline.gov, to help consumers avoid becoming victims of Internet scams.
At , consumers can take interactive quizzes designed to enlighten them about identity theft, phishing, spam and online shopping scams. If the user selects a wrong answer, the program explains why that particular misconception about Internet security can lead to trouble. Consumers can also find detailed guidance on how to monitor their credit histories, use effective passwords and recover from identity theft. See more at www.onguardonline.gov.
Five federal agencies and 13 private organizations partnered to sponsor the OnGuard Online Web site. There is also a link to report a risk if you become aware of a new online scam or phishing attempt in your area.
