Clever Scammers Pose as Fraud Departments
It sounds so legitimate: you receive a call from a “fraud department” needing to verify your account number, checking history, etc. because they’re afraid your account has been compromised. It’s NOT legitimate. And the sad truth is if you give the scammer your account information, it almost certainly will be compromised. Your financial institution already has your account number and all the details of your account. They don’t have to, and won’t, call you for this type of information. Protect yourself—if you fear you’ve given information to a scammer, call your financial institution immediately.
